Motivate,
Incentives = Loyalty
With large companies offering a variety of benefits to their technicians and secretaries, it is hard for the smaller business to operate with a low turn over. Large turnovers mean an interruption in your business profits and eventual growth potential. Undoubtedly, keeping your employees content with their place of employment, has a lot to do in the long run with your success. When the time comes to sell your business, a buyer does look at your employee turnover rate, among many other factors.
As a small business owner (under $250k annual gross revenue), expenses need to be made wisely. Using proper chemicals for each job, is an area that certainly cannot be cut back on. Regular maintenance on all vehicles, will keep down repair costs. Scheduling routes efficiently will keep down on gas prices.
Knowing where costs can be cut and where extra money needs to be spent, is essential to any healthy business. One area that most small business owners feel spending part of the profits is not affordable is in the benefits area. With rising health insurance, the small business owner nor the employee can afford it. Vacation is another benefit that is overlooked by small business owners as well as a retirement plan.
Fortunately, today there are many benefit options that ARE affordable to the small business owner. You may go further and say that you cant afford not to provide at least one of these benefits to your employees.
Regarding Health Insurance, the government has started the Health Savings Account (HSA). Visit www.hsafinder.com for more information on the program and tax benefits and responsibilities. You and your employee both make contributions and the employee can transfer it from one employer to another. It may seem small, but something that may add to the loyalty and trust of your employee and that smaller turnover.
IRAs, Direct Deposit of paychecks, automatic savings deposits from their paychecks. Company discount on a service you provide. If you have a commercial account, try to work out a small discount program with them for your employees in exchange for a service or discount to their employees that sign up for a service. (Hummm, a possible added benefit for you.)
These are just some ways you can help with your employee morale, providing them with benefits that will not lower your profits tremendously and keep loyal, hard-working employees working for you.
Show and tell your employees how much you appreciate their hard work. It will contribute to a solid business foundation.
